Special Day... | Mother: The Purest Form of Love, Strength, and Sacrifice in a Changing Digital World

Mother’s Day Special

A mother is not just a relation; she is the purest embodiment of selfless love, sacrifice, compassion, and unwavering faith. She can stay hungry to feed her children, silently understand their pain, and become their first teacher by laying the foundation of values, discipline, and humanity. That is why mothers are often called the priceless treasure of love, whose blessings brighten the world.

As the world celebrates Mother’s Day today, it is a moment not only to honor motherhood but also to reflect on the evolving role of mothers in modern society.

Why Do We Celebrate Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day began in the early 20th century in the United States, when Anna Jarvis initiated the day in memory of her mother. Over time, it became a global occasion dedicated to appreciating mothers for their unconditional love and lifelong sacrifices. In India too, Mother’s Day has become a meaningful celebration of maternal strength, affection, and the values that shape generations.

Mother: The Foundation of Love and Values

In Indian culture, mothers are often compared to the Earth—gentle, nurturing, patient, and life-giving. They are considered the first gurus who teach love, sacrifice, and discipline.

Professor Bhavna Shekar beautifully says,
“Mother is like the Earth, and father is like the sky. Earlier, mothers symbolized affection while fathers represented discipline, but in today’s digital era, parenting roles are changing. Friendship between parents and children is important, but children should not take it for granted. Mothers must remain vigilant, smart, and emotionally aware. Today’s children need not just love, but emotional strength, discipline, values, compassion, and humanity.”

She further highlights a growing concern:
“Nowadays, parents are giving valuable toys but not values. Mothers must become super moms—smart, watchful, and like a judicial friend.”

The Digital Era: New Challenges for Mothers

Technology has transformed parenting. Children today are growing up faster, exposed to gadgets, social media, and digital distractions. This has made parenting more complex than ever.

Shubham Shree, child counselor at IGIMS Patna, says,
“Mother’s Day is sacred because motherhood is sacred. In today’s world, technology deeply influences children’s behavior, so mothers must be digitally aware. They should understand how children interact with gadgets, monitor their emotional health, and also care for their own mental well-being through exercise, social interaction, and self-care.”

Mothers: The Greatest Warriors

Social worker Reena Singh describes mothers as lifelong fighters:
“Mothers battle every challenge for their children. When my children were young, I used to scold them; now they are grown up and scold me when I neglect myself. Sitting together, sharing tea, and reliving old memories brings immense joy. Earlier, we received handwritten wishes; now children living far away send gifts online—but the love remains the same.”

Working Mothers and the Burden of Balance

Modern mothers are increasingly balancing careers with family life, carrying dual responsibilities.

Poornima Padmasna, Chief Manager at Bank of Maharashtra, says,
“Today’s mothers are growing professionally, but their struggles are also increasing. Managing home and office requires exceptional time management. Mothers give their all to family, but often forget themselves. They must invest time in their own happiness, hobbies, and well-being.”

A Mother’s Health Matters Too

Wellness expert Mausam Sharma emphasizes that mothers often neglect their own physical and mental health while caring for everyone else.

“Mothers sacrifice endlessly for family, but they must also prioritize themselves. Yoga, dance, relaxation, and moments of joy are essential for a healthier and happier life.”

A mother is the world’s greatest woman—soft yet strong, emotional yet resilient, loving yet disciplined. In today’s rapidly changing world, mothers are not only caregivers but also mentors, digital guides, emotional anchors, and role models.

Mother’s Day is more than a celebration; it is a reminder that mothers are the heart of every family and the soul of society.

A mother is love, sacrifice, strength, and the eternal light that shapes humanity.
