Bihar’s Planned City Mission Depends on Trust Between Farmers and Administration

Women empowerment in Bihar has witnessed remarkable progress over the years through government initiatives focused on education, safety, healthcare, reservation, and financial assistance. From school enrollment to participation in jobs and public life, women today are becoming more visible and independent across the state.
Former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar introduced several landmark schemes including bicycle programs for girls, educational incentives, reservation policies, and women-focused welfare initiatives that changed the social landscape of Bihar. These efforts encouraged thousands of girls to continue education and dream beyond traditional barriers.
Now, under Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the discussion around women empowerment is entering a new phase. While safety, employment, and financial independence remain key priorities, education experts and social thinkers believe Bihar now urgently needs dedicated women’s universities and advanced research centres.
The demand is growing stronger because many girls in rural and semi-urban areas still hesitate to pursue higher education due to social pressure, distance, lack of infrastructure, and safety concerns. A dedicated women’s university can provide a secure academic environment, leadership opportunities, research exposure, and skill-based education tailored specifically for women.
BJP spokesperson and academician Prof. Suheli Mehta said that empowering women through education is the strongest investment for society. She emphasized that when a woman studies, an entire generation becomes empowered. According to her, the government’s women-centric policies are already helping girls move towards self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and professional careers.“Bihar now needs a dedicated Women’s University for the next phase of women empowerment,” says Prof. Suheli Mehta.
However, experts argue that Bihar must now move beyond basic access to education and focus on quality higher education for women. Dedicated universities for women could help increase participation in research, technology, administration, science, entrepreneurship, and public leadership.
Academicians say such institutions can become centres of excellence for innovation, skill development, civil services preparation, digital learning, and women-led startups. They also believe these universities can play a major role in reducing dropout rates among girls after school education.
The state government has repeatedly assured that women’s safety and dignity remain top priorities. Several initiatives have been launched to strengthen protection mechanisms and create safer environments for women and children.
Yet, many believe the real transformation will come when Bihar creates institutions that not only educate women but also prepare them to lead society, administration, business, and policymaking.
The demand for women’s universities is now being seen not just as an educational issue, but as a major step toward long-term social and economic empowerment in Bihar.
