Patna: A tribute and memorial programme was organised on Monday at Gyan Bhavan, Patna, on the first death anniversary of Padma Shri Acharya Kishore Kunal. Addressing the gathering, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said that the work undertaken by Acharya Kishore Kunal to provide relief to patients suffering from incurable diseases, including cancer, reflected his deep commitment to humanity. He added that no service to society could be greater than serving those in distress.
During the programme, the Mahavir Mandir Trust honoured seven individuals with the Shravan Kumar Award for their selfless service to their parents. The award recognises sons and daughters who take dedicated care of physically and economically weak elderly parents and serve as an inspiration to society.
The Secretary of the Mahavir Mandir Sthan Nyas Samiti, while addressing the gathering, requested that the underground subway at Patna Junction be named after Acharya Kishore Kunal. Responding to the proposal, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary assured that efforts would be made in this direction.
Recalling Acharya Kishore Kunal’s contributions, the Deputy Chief Minister said that he had donated ₹10 crore for the construction of the Ram Temple. He also expressed hope that the humanitarian and social initiatives started by Acharya Kishore Kunal would be carried forward by his son, Sayan Kunal, who is actively involved in social welfare activities.
Several senior leaders addressed the programme, including ministers Vijay Choudhary, Ashok Choudhary and Ramkripal Yadav. The event witnessed the presence of several prominent personalities, including Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, Acharya Kishore Kunal’s wife Anita Kunal and his Daughter- in- law MP from samastipur loksabha Shambhavi Choudhary, legislators Rana Randhir, Sanjeev Chaurasia and Krishna Kumar Mantu, Mahavir Mandir trustees Lieutenant General A.K. Choudhary and Sanjay Kumar, Patna Mayor Sita Sahu, and Patna High Court judge Justice Rajeev Ranjan Prasad.
The Shravan Kumar Award, instituted by the Mahavir Mandir Trust in 2010, honours individuals who render selfless service to their elderly parents. The award was first presented on May 23, 2010, on the occasion of Janaki Navami. The programme not only paid tribute to the life and legacy of Acharya Kishore Kunal but also highlighted the importance of respecting and caring for parents as a fundamental social value.
