Muzaffarpur Hospital Fire Tragedy: Minister Rama Nishad Assures Strict Action, Support for Victims’ Families

A massive fire tragedy at Prasad Hospital, a private hospital in Muzaffarpur, has triggered outrage and grief across Bihar after the death toll rose to six on Friday. The incident, which reportedly began after a suspected short circuit in the ICU during the early hours of Thursday, left several patients trapped inside smoke-filled rooms.

According to officials, five patients died on Thursday while another critically injured patient succumbed during treatment on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Brajnandan Rai from Kurhani block of Muzaffarpur district. Several injured patients are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals in Muzaffarpur and Patna.

Amid growing public concern, Bihar minister Rama Nishad visited the incident site and met affected families. Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, she said the government stands firmly with the victims and assured that no negligence would be tolerated.

Rama Nishad stated that the incident was extremely painful and directed officials to ensure transparency in the investigation. She emphasized that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible for negligence leading to the deadly fire.

The minister also said that the state government has already announced an immediate compensation of ₹4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Injured patients shifted to Patna for advanced treatment are being closely monitored to ensure they receive proper medical care.

Meanwhile, police have intensified the investigation into the incident. An FIR has been registered and three hospital employees, including the ICU doctor on duty, the administrative manager, and the maintenance manager, have been arrested in connection with the case.

Muzaffarpur City SP Mohibullah Ansari stated that the roles of the arrested individuals appeared suspicious during the initial probe. A special investigation team is currently questioning them and examining various aspects related to hospital safety and possible negligence.

Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen confirmed the sixth death and said a detailed inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and identify accountability.

During her visit, Rama Nishad also appealed to the public to maintain peace and assured that the NDA government remains fully committed to supporting the affected families during this difficult time.

BJP Muzaffarpur (East) District President Vivek Kumar and several party leaders were also present during the visit to the hospital premises.

The incident has once again raised serious questions regarding fire safety arrangements, emergency response systems, and regulatory compliance in private hospitals across Bihar.
