Patna: More than 1,000 participants gathered in Patna on March 8 for the fifth edition of the Gargi Narishakti Sammelan 2026, organised by the Gargi Chapter of the Let’s Inspire Bihar campaign to mark International Women’s Day.
The event brought together educators, artists, social workers, entrepreneurs and women leaders from across Bihar to celebrate women’s empowerment and discuss their growing role in shaping the state’s development.
The programme began with dignitaries visiting exhibition stalls showcasing social and educational initiatives led by members of the Gargi Chapter. The event was formally inaugurated with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony attended by Vikas Vaibhav, an IPS officer and patron of the campaign, along with several distinguished guests.
Among the prominent attendees were Dr Shanti Roy, a Padma Shri awardee and noted gynaecologist; Sushma Sahu, former member of the Bihar State Women’s Commission; Mangla Rani, professor and educationist; and Dr Preeti Bala, chief coordinator of the Gargi Chapter.
Several women were honoured for their contributions in different fields. One of the awardees, Purnima Padmasna, shared her views on women’s empowerment during a brief interaction with the media.
Padmasna, who works as Chief Manager at Bank of Maharashtra, is also known as a model, health and wellness advocate, motivational speaker, and the winner of Mrs India One in a Million in 2022.
Speaking about the changing role of women in society, she said that women are achieving remarkable success as more opportunities open up for them. Emphasising the strength of women, she said, “Women are gentle but not weak.”
She also noted that Bihar has made positive strides in improving women’s safety and empowerment. Referring to the state’s prohibition policy, she described the liquor ban as a progressive step that has contributed to a safer environment for women.
The Gargi Narishakti Sammelan continues to serve as a platform for recognising women achievers and encouraging dialogue on gender equality, leadership and social progress in Bihar.
