Jehanabad NEET Girl Case: Initial Denial, Later Doubts—Family Alleges Cover-Up

The death of a NEET aspirant from Jehanabad in Patna has deepened controversy after initial police claims of no sexual assault were later contradicted by medical findings stating that sexual violence cannot be ruled out. The victim’s family has alleged an attempt to cover up the case, citing hospital lapses and police negligence. As public outrage grows, Atri MLA Romit Kumar visited the bereaved family, assuring them that the fight for justice would continue from the streets to the Assembly. The case has since led to the formation of a Special Investigation Team and intensified demands for a CBI probe.

Jehanabad NEET Girl : Amid nationwide outrage over the death of a NEET aspirant in Patna under suspected sexual assault circumstances, the case of an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Jehanabad has intensified public anger and political pressure. Her parents had sent her to Patna with dreams of a successful medical career, but she was allegedly assaulted and later died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
According to the family, the girl was first admitted to Sahaj Hospital, where she was treated by a former IMA patron and later referred to another medical facility. However, instead of following the referral, the hostel warden allegedly took her to Prabhat Memorial Hospital in Rajendra Nagar. The victim’s parents have levelled serious allegations against the hospital doctor, including misconduct and negligence.
The family has also accused Chitragupt Nagar SHO Roshni Kumari of gross negligence, claiming she did not even visit the crime scene. They further alleged that even the SHO’s driver later exposed lapses in the initial handling of the case. Initially, Patna Police maintained that there was no sexual assault. However, after the medical board opinion from PMCH and the postmortem report, authorities acknowledged that sexual violence cannot be ruled out. The report also mentioned multiple blood clots and scratch marks on various parts of the body.
An FIR has been registered based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family.
The case has triggered sharp political reactions across the state. Opposition parties have accused the Bihar government of failing to ensure the safety of students living in private hostels and have intensified their demand for a CBI probe into the incident.
The NEET aspirant, who was staying at a private hostel in Patna’s Chitragupt Nagar area, was found unconscious in her room earlier this month. While initial medical findings suggested the consumption of sleeping pills along with other complications, her family has consistently alleged sexual assault and accused authorities of attempting a cover-up.
Following massive public protests, DGP Vinay Kumar constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case, and the owner of the private hostel has been arrested. The postmortem report clearly stated that sexual violence cannot be ruled out.
Several political leaders visited the bereaved family in the aftermath of the incident. MLA Romit Kumar of Atri Assembly constituency met the victim’s parents, expressed condolences, and assured them of full support in their fight for justice.
Speaking to the family, Romit Kumar said,
“This is not just one family’s tragedy; it is a failure of the system. We will raise this issue from the streets to the Assembly and ensure accountability. We will fight to ensure our daughter gets justice.”
His visit added to mounting political pressure on the administration, as serious questions continue to be raised about the monitoring of private hostels and the safety of minor girls and students preparing for competitive examinations in Patna.
As investigations continue, civil society groups and opposition leaders have reiterated the urgent need for stricter hostel regulations, transparent investigations, and institutional accountability to prevent such tragedies in the future.
